What Living Blue Means to Us

At Tomorrow Foundation, we’re dedicated to what we call “living blue.” Living blue means a lot of things, but overall, it reflects our commitment to protecting and preserving our oceans for future generations through ocean conservation, freshwater resource protection, protection of marine life, and fighting against pollution on our big blue planet.

Here are some of the ways we “live blue” at Tomorrow Foundation:

Awareness

Unless you live by the ocean or depend on it for your livelihood, many people view ocean conservation as a distant cause. They don’t witness the impact that plastic pollution in our oceans has on each and every one of us. We’re set out to change that.

We are dedicated to bringing awareness to the importance of ocean conservation through programs that open people’s eyes to the immediate problems facing our big blue seas. From declining whale populations to nearly insurmountable plastic pollution, we seek to open people’s eyes to the severity of the problem and start them down the path of passionately seeking change for our aquatic environments.

Advocacy

Alongside awareness comes advocacy. We are passionate advocates for our marine worlds and are working hard to actively keep the pressing problems of ocean pollution at the forefront of people’s minds. Our environment cannot advocate for itself, so we proudly take up the challenge and are working hard to speak for our planet and its stunning ecosystems.

Education

We cannot protect what we don’t understand, which is why a huge part of our Living Blue promise is to educate people on the most pressing issues facing our marine environments.

These efforts include:

  • Educating children on the effects various environmental issues have on marine life.
  • Educating people on the severe threat of extinction facing vulnerable species of whales, dolphins, turtles, and other marine life.
  • Demonstrating the benefits of clean oceans for our planet and the people living on it.
  • Partnering with local communities to educate people on the importance of preserving freshwater habitats.

The more people understand how deeply we are connected to the ocean, the more likely they are to invest in its preservation. We cannot fix problems we don’t understand or don’t know about, so we are investing a huge amount of effort into getting ocean conservation education to as many people worldwide as possible.

Inspiration

It takes more than just knowing a problem exists to decide to do something about it. As we guide people towards wanting to take action, we seek to inspire them in some way. For example, to understand how important freshwater systems are to our communities, and how they interconnect all of us, we demonstrate how immediately our water systems affect each and every one of us.

People are inspired to take action because of what they feel most strongly about, so part of Living Blue is to connect people with the issue of ocean conservation on a deep and intimate level, inspiring them to take action.

Action

This is where all of our awareness, advocacy, education, and inspiration finally take hold in our Living Blue promise. We are taking action to reverse the damage that our society is doing to our oceans and freshwater sources. We are rolling up our sleeves and working to undo decades of pollution and neglect.

Here are some of the ways we’re taking action to Live Blue:

  • Adopting local beaches and organizing cleanups to remove plastic pollution and other debris.
  • Creating solution-oriented community engagement to organize cleanup efforts on local beaches and coastlines.
  • Actively motivating individuals to make picking up trash and debris from their local communities a daily habit, keeping it from ever entering our waterways.

And more is yet to come. There is so much work to be done, and Living Blue means dedicating ourselves to that work every single day until we can all enjoy a clean, healthy environment.

Partnerships

Living Blue is not something we do alone, it’s a community effort. We are partnering with local businesses, community groups, and non-profit organizations to maximize our impact. By working with community leaders, we can impact change by connecting directly with people where they live, bringing the issues we’re trying to solve much closer to home.

Living Blue is not just a temporary action plan, it’s a lifestyle commitment. It’s our mission to make living blue a part of everyone’s lifestyle so that we can all continue to enjoy our beautiful oceans and access clean fresh water for generations to come.
